I've lived in Washington for the past 19 years and have raised two sons in the Midwest. I have been a registered nurse for over 35 years working in oncology, intensive care, and medical-Surgical. Nursing has been very fulfilling for me. I have a huge heart for people and a desire to care for others. I believe God blesses us in order to bless others.
I've lived in South Dakota for most of my life, working in the tech industry and raising two awesome kids (both married now) with my wife Joy. But most of my childhood was spent in West Africa where my parents served as missionaries for almost 20 years.
As a missionary kid, I saw first-hand my parents serving in the 'field operations' of missionary service in the rural areas of Cameroon. This included traveling with my parents to rural African villages. At times that was on foot and others via horseback. I regularly heard my father preach the gospel and encourage local congregations and pastors in their faith. I accepted Christ as my Lord at an early age through the example and influence of my parents. I have served in various ministries of a local church where my wife and I have attended for over 30 years.
In Ephesians 6:12 it states that "our struggle is not with flesh and blood but with the principalities, with the powers, with the world rulers of this present darkness, with the evil spirits in the heavens" (NAB). This scripture makes it clear that behind every human conflict and battle, the 'true' battle lies beyond the veil of this physical realm where the victory is actually staged in the spiritual realms.
A military definition states that the purpose of a 'field operation' is to prepare for real-world scenarios and combat situations. So, at this point in my life, I feel privileged to serve on the board of Field Ops Ministries, which truly links back to my childhood roots of a 'field operation' type of battle and ministry, preparing for the final battle that will ultimately defeat "this present darkness"!
I used to be an atheist who was on the constant search for something that didn’t have a rock bottom. The day I decided to go to church to check out that God thing, I found the one thing that doesn’t have a rock bottom and only provides all I need beyond my wildest dreams… Jesus Christ, God the Father, and the Holy Spirit.
From that day to now much has changed to the degree that few know who I am compared the man I used to be. Jesus has a way of changing you into who He wanted me to become. That way I’m effective at carrying out His vision and appointment for my life.
Looking forward I have one simple goal. Carry out Luke 9:23; Pick up my cross and follow Jesus Christ… regardless of the cost. The cost in this world to myself is minimal to the cost of not doing so in heaven. Therefore, I live for Him and do as He bids with glee and joy.
I’ll happily go to places others would say no to. I’ve gone homeless for the Lord even though I had the money to not. I was asked, so I did. That is how I carry out my life. I love God far more than words could ever justify and express the depths of that love. Words in of themselves are a disservice to that expression. Nevertheless, I’ve attempted to illustrate.
I want to remain separated from the world and live in a way that prevents reliance on it. That way I can remain available for God at a moment’s notice all the while requiring little from this temporary existence. I consider this true freedom.
